Dinner
Celebration for Kitchen God
The tradition of
serving food to the kitchen God is an old Chinese tradition which is still
being followed by the Chinese generations today. During the Chinese New Year
eve, families arrange a get together and prepare the typical type of meal as
dinner including glutinous rice or sticky rice balls served in sugary syrup and
before serving anyone else, one bowl of the meal is served in front of a
picture of Kitchen God. After the dinner is finished by every family member,
the picture of Kitchen God is burnt to believe that the God goes back to heaven
and then on the New Year Eve, a new picture is placed.
Shopping at
Flower Market
Shopping at
Flower Market is another compulsory activity during the Chinese New Year and it
is believed that visiting flower market during or a week prior to New Year
brings good luck at home for unmarried people and it is also believed that it
works quite well to make the children active if they are lazy in studies and
work. Flower Markets are stuffed with flowers, orange trees, dried snacks, and
meats and as the New Year approaches nearer, the crowd in the flower market
increases and if you planning to drive on your own, it is better to visit for
such shopping beforehand as driving in
Singapore these days becomes too hectic.
